Love & loss: a letter from the heart
If there’s something weighing heavily on you that’s making your regular day-to-day existence feel more difficult or less meaningful...if you’re finding it hard to motivate yourself to do all the stuff you “should” be doing…if you feel like you’re on an emotional rollercoaster and the tears come up quickly at a moment’s notice...if you’re wondering when inspiration will strike or when you’ll feel like your full self again…my hope is you also find some peace in the words below — and in the awareness that you are not alone.
I know this one really hurts. It’s a big deal. Life-changing. I give you permission to take all the time and space you need.
It’s okay to feel everything you're feeling. It’s okay if none of it makes sense. It’s okay if you don’t feel like yourself. It’s okay if you start crying in line at the grocery store. It’s okay if you feel angry. It’s okay if you feel a bit of everything, or nothing at all. Let your feelings — whatever they are — be okay.
Of course you feel sad. It’s normal to feel powerless. Perhaps you feel a sense of despair, and yet…in moments, there is still joy. The dark and the light coexist, after all.
And by all means, when you feel the joy — embrace it! Accept it immediately, like a big hug from your best friend. Let its warmth envelop and soften your pain, if ever so slightly. Because even in moments of great loss, there is always, always love.
And the depth of pain you feel right now? It won’t last forever. I know it might not feel that way right now, but it’s true. You will get through this. You will.
In the meantime, here's what I know: you are doing the best you can. And that is truly enough.
With so much love,
