As a business owner, your to-do list technically never ends.
There is always more you can be doing, which keeps things fun and interesting...
But can also keep you feeling constantly behind, overwhelmed, and like you're never able to truly turn off your brain and unplug.
I have a lot to share on this topic, but today I'm keeping things simple and focusing on overwhelm specifically.
We feel overwhelmed when we put more on our plates than we can humanly accomplish in the given timeframe.
Simply put, our brains know it's too much for us.
Yet so often we proceed anyway, trying to squeeze it all in and power through...
Hoping that if we work harder and faster, we'll reach this magical destination of "getting it all done," when we can finally (FINALLY!) kick back and relax.
Except when we overbook ourselves, the only thing we're left feeling is discouraged and behind.
If you've been in this cycle, I have a different approach that will be a game changer for your productivity, energy, and overall morale.
Here are the 2 main steps:
1) Set your to-do list aside for a moment, and reflect on everything you have created.
Give yourself a pat on the back for being a f*cking badass and coming this far (seriously!).
I promise you, taking the time to bask in this is way more motivating than beating yourself up for not being further along.
2) Underpromise and overdeliver on your commitments to yourself.
Instead of being like "This week, I'm going to record all the videos for my course, add subtitles, build it out in Kajabi, and create all my marketing content and emails"...
Then getting through your recordings and feeling like a failure for "only" doing those...
Start small: "This week, I'm going to record all of the videos for my course."
Pick something that you know with 100% certainty you can get through.
Give yourself an abundance of time, way more than you think you'll actually need.
Then, when you complete the task in less time than you expected, here's what will happen:
You'll feel so proud, accomplished, and motivated, that you'll likely move on to the next task on your list and get ahead of schedule.
You'll get just as much done (probably more) than you would have if you'd over-committed, except this time you'll feel like a rockstar.
You'll also start to build up some powerful self-trust!
I've seen this approach play out time and time again. It's a true mind hack, and it never fails ;)
So the next time you feel overwhelmed, consider that it's simply your cue to recalibrate, prioritize what matters most, and offer yourself ample time to take the next small step.
As a result, you'll end up getting more done, creating more momentum, and feeling more accomplished!
Cheers to that,
Megan
P.S. 99% of my coaching calls end with clients letting out a big sigh of relief.
There's nothing I love more than taking the pressure, stress, and overwhelm out of biz building, so talented humans like you can get back to the JOY of doing the work you know you were put on this earth to do.
If you're ready to bring renewed energy, magic and momentum back into your business, and feel a deep sense of peace, satisfaction, and freedom in your days, let's talk!
