6 Shifts I'm Making for More Joy in My Business

Have you ever gone through a big change in one area of your life that totally shifts your perspective on everything else?

I'm going through one of those right now as a new mom, and I'm seeing the most shifts unfolding around how I want to run my business.

Today I felt inspired to share 6 ways this is showing up, because these changes not only feel incredible, but they also apply to everyone (not just moms).

Here's what's shifting in my business, and what's helping me feel a greater sense of freedom and joy than ever before:

1) Caring less about what other people think.

This is the biggest shift of all. If there's anything the motherhood-focused corner of the internet has taught me already, it's that there are a million different opinions out there about the "right" way to do things...and no matter what you choose, there will always be someone who disagrees with you.

In a way, it's been a huge relief to realize this. It's like my inner people-pleaser has finally accepted that it's literally impossible to please everyone...and has stepped away for a much-needed vacation.

My mind feels so much clearer without other people's opinions (or thoughts about other people's opinions) taking up precious brain space.

2) Being more disciplined about my work hours, and how I spend them.

The cool part is that this has resulted in me becoming more productive when I'm working and really making the most of the time I have. And the cool part about that is that it creates less room for overthinking, over-editing, endlessly tweaking, etc. I'm intensely focused and unwilling to indulge in the kind of second-guessing that would have slowed me down in the past.

I've also cut out all the non-essential tasks and have doubled down on what really moves the needle in my business.

3) Not sweating the small stuff.

For me this is about embracing a healthy amount of caring less about things that don't really matter. In the same way that my inner people-pleaser has been less activated than ever, so has my inner perfectionist!

Stuff that might've sent me into a tailspin or down a negative thought train in the past simply rolls off my back. No sweat. No worries. Onto the next thing. As someone whose natural tendency is to put a lot of pressure on themself, this is so liberating.

I used to be jealous of people who moved through the world feeling so carefree like this. Now I see that this is a skill I can practice by keeping things in perspective, actively deciding what I care most about, and letting go of anything that doesn't fall into that category.

4) Focusing on my life outside of my business, and my identity outside of being a coach.

This is something I've practiced and talked about for years, but it's gone to a whole new level for me lately.

For the past year, becoming a mom has been at the forefront of my mind...and my business experienced some much-needed breathing room as a result. Having another big thing to direct my energy into really took the preciousness out of every little move I was making in my business.

Same thing with my identity β€” it feels so good to be connected to these other parts of myself. And ironically, the more of my non-professional self I bring into my work, the more I attract my dream clients anyways!

5) Being more discerning about what I consume.

If it doesn't uplift me, energize me, entertain me, educate me, or contribute to my growth in some way, I don't spend time absorbing it. This goes for social media, TV shows, podcasts, news, and even conversations.

This has not only made me happier on a daily basis, but it's also created space for more of my own ideas and creativity to surface.

6) Doubling down on basic self care (aka sleep, healthy food, water, movement...and actually leaving my house!) as much as I can.

I'm currently avoiding coffee, alcohol, dairy, and most sweets because doing so either helps me or my baby feel best. And the craziest part is that I don't really miss any of it...except cheese πŸ˜‚ I will def be adding dairy back in once I'm done breastfeeding because cheese is one of my favorite foods!

Once again I'm reminded that when I nourish my body, my quality of life drastically improves...and so does my ability to show up for my business.

I'm sure there will be more to come, but for now, these are the biggest highlights! I can't emphasize enough what a difference they're making.

If you feel inspired to try any of them, I'd recommend incorporating one at a time β€” and I'd love to hear what you're starting with!
