What to Do When Your Inner Mean Girl Shows Up

When your inner Regina George shows up (and she will, because you're human!), here's what you do:

1. Write down the mean thoughts

2. Question them one by one

3. Ask yourself, “What’s the actual truth?”

For example, let’s say you write down the thought: "I'm too much for people."

From there, you’d question it: Is it true that I’m too much? What does that even mean, anyway? Too much for who? What would someone who loves me unconditionally believe about this?

Last but not least, you’d consider the actual truth. Search for the kindest thing you can think of that resonates in the moment.

Maybe it’s that you think of someone you know who fully embraces and celebrates all of you. You can easily be your full self around them, and feel 100% safe and accepted.

Maybe you think of a time when you were totally unfiltered and created a deeper connection as a result.

Maybe you believe, in general, that every person is created exactly as they are for a reason.

It doesn’t matter what you come up with, just make sure it a) is kind, and b) feels true to you.

And remember: your brain is an expert problem-solver, but it’s not always a truth-teller.

It’s filled with conditioning and programmed beliefs — some that serve you, and others that don’t.

You get to question all of it and choose what most supports you.

Don't let your inner Regina George steal your joy or ruin your day!
